On this day in 1933, the legend of the Loch Ness Monster was born when a sighting made by Alex Campbell, the water bailiff for Loch Ness appeared in the local news. A circus offered £20,000 reward for the capture of it and many London newspapers sent correspondents rushing to Scotland.
