Anyone for Afternoon tea? UK History, Customs and Culture.

I don’t know where they found the time to do anything else?  So, from Lunchtime.  In years gone by in the UK, some people, more often the wealthy would have ‘afternoon tea‘.  This would be around 4pm.  There were many ‘Tea Rooms‘ and hotels that would serve this.  Consisting of a Pot of Tea, of course.  Served in Bone China teapots and drunk from Bone China tea cups stirred with silver teaspoons.

It would also include sandwiches with the crusts cut off and cut into triangle shapes, possibly cheese and cucumber followed by pastries or scones with strawberry jam and clotted cream.

Not many people do that these days.  But it still goes on.  Perhaps mainly in the holiday season at the seaside?  Or in the large luxurious hotels in London.

I’m getting hungry.  Time for tea!
